Welcome to the County
Cork
Local Sports Partnership.
At the
County Cork Sports Partnership we have made it our mission to increase the
number of people participating in sport, exercise and physical activity in the County
of Cork .
In
achieving this mission we will place particular focus on young people, teenage
girls, women, people with disabilities, minority groups and older people.
We will strive to
achieve this goal by delivering quality programmes in schools, assisting
athletes, coaches and parents on improving performance; providing training to
develop clubs and leaders and delivering training to raise the standard of
coaching.
On this web site you can find out all about us, our programmes, upcoming events

Background
The Irish
Sports Council was established in 1999 and launched its first statement strategy
'A New Era for Sport' in 2000.
This
strategy identified that the most effective method for the development of
sport, exercise and physical activity would be through a partnership approach
between all agencies and organizations involved in the delivery and development
of sport at local level. Thus the Local Sports Partnerships (LSP) initiative
was launched.
The first
eight partnerships, in a national network of Local Sports Partnerships, were
launched in May 2001. The initial areas selected to pilot the programme
were; Clare, Kildare, Donegal, Laois, North Tipperary, Roscommon, Sligo , and Fingal, Co. Dublin. Then in June 2002, four
more Partnerships were launched in Waterford ,
Meath, Cork , and Limerick City .
Following their commitment with their initiative "Sport for Life
2003-2006", the ISC established an additional four LSP's in Kerry,
Kilkenny, Mayo, and Westmeath in 2003.
The County
Cork LSP (CCLSP) has grown in strength since its formation due to the hard work
and commitment of the agencies and organizations involved. A testimony to this
is the volume of events for all age groups that take place annually.
The key
aim of the CCLSP therefore, is to increase participation in sport and physical
activity, especially amongst specific target groups and to ensure that local
resources are put to their best possible use.
The Irish
Sports Council's current strategy 'Building Sport for Life' (2006 – 2010) has
identified increasing the number of people participating in sport and physical
activity as one of its highest priority goals.
The sports
partnerships have been tasked with achieving these goals.
