Cycling

Cycling has been somewhat in the background in Cork, and indeed Ireland for the past decade or so but with a growing number of dedicated cycle trails, and paths, the sport is slowly growing in popularity. Part of the reason for this has been the decision of IrishCyling to have Cork host a number of stage races. The Tour of Ireland came through Cork last year and on a stunning summers day, the crowds flocked to Patricks Hill to see some of the best cyclists in the world battle it out for the yellow jersey. Such was the success of last years event that IrishCycling has decided to put another stage into Cork.

Away from the professional side of cycling, the quiet and peaceful roads of West Cork offer some of the best routes available. A number of touring clubs have been set up recently and anyone looking for some great exercise and meeting other enthusiasts should contact the following clubs;
