In 2005 the Sports Partnership was approached to take responsibility for the renovation and reopening of the Macroom Community Leisure Centre which had been forced to close due to lack of funding to carry out essential repairs.

The Partnership welcomed the opportunity to work with the local community and vested interest/agencies in developing a lively and vibrant community sports facility that would meet the needs of the local community. During the redevelopment of the centre necessary renovation work was carried out, a new heating system, two new gyms areas with aerobic and cardiovascular equipment and a new fitness studio were all installed. In addition the main hall flooring was relined, sanded and varnished.

The centre was officially reopened in December 2006 by the Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, Mr. John O'Donoghue TD.
